Why opt for a Kalimba?
If you’re here it’s because you crossed paths with a video on the internet or listened to a busker play one.
Admit it: the sound of kalimba has won you over and you can’t wait to try it yourself.
More and more people are buying a kalimba and sharing their progress online: its sound instills peace and well-being. Playing is no longer just a hobby, but is a gesture of love for ourselves.
Choose your musical instrument and a serene place, away from the stress and crowds. Your kalimba and the music it will produce will allow you to get in touch with the environment that surrounds you, with nature and experience will be cathartic. Remember that Kalimba comes from African tribes and was the means to communicate with spirits and get in touch with nature.
The answer I feel I have to give as a violist and guitarist is yes and no.
Surely, like many other percussion instruments, kalimba is intuitive (unlike, for example, a violin!).
There is no law that dictates how you hold in your hands and how to move your thumbs, while other musical instruments also need time to learn how to hold. There are, however, techniques that allow you to emit a softer sound, clean, harmonious, and techniques with which to do virtuosity, with which to speed up the movements of your fingers and amaze those around you.
Practicing for a long time means being able to arouse emotions in ourselves and in our listeners. If you are looking for this, peace, serenity and good waves, then don’t be afraid of not being able to play the Kalimba.
I will always teach you!
